Old Quilt Tops

Hi friends!
I spread out this very old quilt top made by either Tommy's mother or grandmother to pin the places it had come apart.
Sewed those up and started to iron and found a least a hundred more where it had frayed and pulled lose from the other fabric.
So as i spray starched and ironed, i took it to the sewing machine and fix each section as i went.
This is the last section and it's has pins here and there.
Maybe i can finish it today and start to put it together.
This is 24 yards of unbleached muslin that i bought for the backs of all the quilt tops.
I just hope it's enough to do four for the girls for Christmas.
With a 50 percent  off coupon from Jo Ann's i got it for 99 cents a yard.
It's more like what would have been used when they made these tops many years ago. I wish i new who made them but their was some sewing machine seams where some one had tried to fix them before, i guess his mother because she had a machine but so did his grand mother i think, a treadle!
We will never know because his mother died a few years ago at the age of 91 and for years before that she didn't answer questions.
Have a good one
Hugs
Quilt Happy

That was a lot of backing - and you are worried it is only going to make 4?

Oh I just love old quilt tops--I like the look and feel of those well-loved fabrics--some that have faded and others still looking almost brand new.
After finishing up Connor's quilt I want to try to follow my heart more with fabrics and de-stash stuff that is not "really me"--if you know what I mean.

I think I like a more old-fashioned look--hard to come by with today's fabric lines. I have saved up a small box of older "small prints" calicoes and old-timey looking stuff. and i think that is where i will begin...
hugs and good luck with quilting that old top hugs, Julierose
