Hand stitching!

Hi friends!
Trying to do a block the old fashioned way!
Not doing to good at it.
I started out thinking i would do a star but had no way to anchor the points so i could sew it.
Then decided i would do one like our teacher showed us.
This is it!  Don't think i am cut out to do hand sewing blocks. But i want give up!

Yesterday i washed some fabric to add to the backing and the first was the color catcher was wine colored. This is the second wash!
The fabric is brown!  How did it do this?
I just gave up! Decided i would use up some grey it will be close to the same color as the sheet.
Just had a weird day when nothing really went well.
Hope your day is better.
Hugs
Quilt Happy

Hand stitching is not a love of mine either. But I've read you should mark the quarter inch seam on the back of the pieces.

I have always found hand stitching seams hard to line up--if the stitching is correct on one side--the other is wonky!! Hard to get a precise seam for me--but then, I am Brain drained right now anyhow!! Hope your tomorrow goes better....hugs and many thanks again for your lovely fabrics--Julierose

I remember watching a video years ago with Alex Anderson and Jinny Beyer was talking about making blocks by hand. It didn't look easy, but I think she did a couple of forward stitches, then a back one or something like that. I had a week like that nothing really went right.

Today was okay for me - but busy - the last two not so great. Hope you sleep well tonight and that tomorrow is a better day.

oh dear I think we all have days like this though hopefully all will be well when you try again, surprised re the colour run from the brown fabric. It amazes me that colour still runs after plenty of washes, I have some dark pink towels and they always run though the color still looks as dark as ever in them, what would we do without colour catchers?

I have a quilt I started sewing all by hand. You can do it easier if you mark the quarter inch seam and line them up as you stitch. I like the fact that my pivots at the ends seem to lie flatter when I hand stitch those tricky Y seams. as with anything, practice makes perfect. sorry you had a crazy day. hope it gets better.
