These are some old quilt tops i found here when we moved in.
I thought Tommy's mother had made them but i think she always had a machine so now i think they may have been made by Tommys grandmother. They are all hand stitched but these are older and falling apart.
They are beautiful old quilt tops but not big enough for a queen sized bed. I had though i would add a border and quilt them but they are full of holes.
The other one has been repaired with a sewing machine.
This is it, a beautiful pattern that i have seen lately so it's not new.
But its full of seams that are open.
See they just came un-sewed. I washed these on gentle when we first moved here.
Someone sewed over a seam that came apart here with a sewing machine.
This is the same pattern that i have seen on many blogs and if i am right it was made maybe in the 30ths or 40ths.
Maybe earlier than that because Tommy's grandmother died in the fifties.

What a wonderful treasure to have. It would be quite the chore to repair but worth the effort in the end.

Wonderful family treasure! Folks back then used all kinds of fabrics in a top. Seen a lot of older vintage or antique quilts with the seams open. We have some antique quilt tops that I hang on vintage wooden hangers. Enjoy them as wall art. We try to display our antique quilts to enjoy them even if just folded in a pie safe. Not all are in perfect condition but to me that just endears them to us more.Will not do any repairs unless it is one to be used on beds or to be quilted. Some wonderful talented long arm quilters who work with vintage really well. Whatever you do it deserves to be out and loved!
I have several tops like this my grandma made. I have been repairing and turning into quilts by hand.
